Certification & Progression

SIET Professional Certification Scheme

Established in 2008 and officially launched in 2009, SIET’s Professional Certification Scheme upholds industry standards and promotes professional excellence. Complementing this, the Examination & Accreditation Board (EAB), instituted in 2008, rigorously reviews and assesses institutional qualifications to safeguard the quality and integrity of engineering education and training.

Three levels of SIET Certification Scheme for Engineering and ICT Professionals are:

• Level 1 – Certified Engineering Associate (CertEA) for ‘Engineering Technician’;
• Level 2 – Certified Engineering Technologist (CertET) for ‘Engineering Technologist’; and
• Level 3 – Certified Technical Specialist (CertTS) for ‘Technical Engineer’.

Assessment Process

All applicants are assessed by a Committee of members and via a professional report and an interview or a written test on ‘Engineering Ethics’ for registration as CertTS and CertET respectively. For CertEA, it will be assessed based on written case studies and passing multiple choice questions (MCQs) on ‘Engineering Ethics’.

• Professional report evaluation
• Part A: Written case studies and MCQs on Engineering Ethics (for CertEA)
• Part B: Interview or written test on Engineering Ethics (for CertTS and CertET)

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

All members registered under SIET Certification Scheme are required to attend at least 20 PDU units or its equivalent over a period of three consecutive years to renew its registration. [1 PDU = 3 hours of CPD]
