SIET Professional Examinations
For more than 15 years (1981 – 1998), SIET had played an important role in organizing ‘Preparation Courses’ for members who were also Polytechnic and ITE Engineering graduates to sit for two UK – Professional Examinations :
- 1995 - The Society of Engineers Graduateship Examinations, UK;
- 1988 - Engineering Council Examinations, UK
This provides SIET members the path to be upgraded.

With the phasing out of the UK- Engineering Council Examinations in 2011, SIET Council decided officially to adopt the revised IEM/BEM Graduate Examinations (March 2011) as its qualifying examinations on 28 January 2011:
(1) IEM/BEM Part 1 (8 subjects) as satisfying its academic requirement for the grade of Member (MSIET); and
(2) IEM/BEM Part 2 (6 compulsory subjects) as satisfying its academic requirement for the grade of Fellow (FSIET).

Current Scheme - Competency Based Assessment (CBA)
With the expansion of universities and polytechnics offering accredited programs, SIET has transitioned from traditional examinations to Competency Based Assessment (CBA). This framework evaluates whether technologists and technicians can apply their knowledge and skills in practice, ensuring professional recognition is firmly aligned with industry needs. By validating applied competence in real-world contexts, CBA strengthens employer confidence and positions our members to contribute meaningfully to Singapore’s technological advancement.
